The Ringwood Turning Prize
Inspired by a group in Somerset whose reaction to the awarding of the Turner Prize to Tracey Emin for her Unmade Bed exhibit was to create a chance for local artists to produce their own contemporary art work, Ringwood is now offering the chance to do likewise.
Exhibits are encouraged from all age groups and will be displayed at Ringwood Parish church for the edification of all. The rules for the entries are laid out in the advertising and the winner will be judged by a local independent panel for which a prestigious trophy, in keeping with the spirit of the event, will be awarded.
This is the chance to unlock your creativity and to prove that the ability to produce significant art works is not confined to an elite few.
An entry fee of £5 is payable per exhibit (under 18's free), monies raised will be donated to the CAP charity (Christians Against Poverty) providing debt advice.
You are invited to enter The Ringwood Turning Prize
The Turning Prize is a parody art competition where the goal is to create the ‘most rubbish’ artwork using the absolute minimum amount of effort possible. Pun-based titles are highly encouraged and if the judges decide you have tried too hard or put in too much effort, your entry will be immediately disqualified.
Key Rules:
Minimum Effort: The guiding philosophy is “we know it’s rubbish but is it art?” Entries requiring exertion are tossed out.
Puns Preferred: Submissions should feature intentional humour and witty, pun-heavy titles.
Materials: Absolutely no paper, cardboard entries are accepted.
Entry Limits: Due to skip hire/disposal costs, participants are restricted to one entry per person.
Submissions: Will be accepted and displayed at Ringwood Parish Church during the first three weeks of October.
Labelling: You must include your name or pseudonym, contact phone number and the title of your art work.
Entry Fees: £5 for 18+ years, under 18 free. All monies raised will be donated to CAP charity (Christians Against Poverty, giving free debt help and community groups).
The Prize: The winner does not receive money or classical acclaim, instead they will take home the prestigious Turning Prize Trophy. This will be awarded during the 10.30am Morning Service at Ringwood Parish Church on Sunday 1st November.
